Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field by its nature. It is through this scientific exchange among biologists, computer scientists, physicists, engineers and chemists that the field has flourished and Computational Biology has been able to give innovative solutions and approaches to biological research questions.

The mission of the ISCB student council is to promote the development of the next generation of computational biologists and the communication between them. In the same spirit we recently formed RSG Greece, the regional branch of the ISCB student council, to create a reference point for students and young scientists that are interested in the field of Computational Biology in our country.

Though RSG Greece we hope to create a reference point for young researchers and students working in the Bioinformatics field, that enables communication and connection across institutions, and organize events that provide the opportunity for students across institutions to meet, present and discuss their research work. Also, we wish to provide information and guidance to Biosciences students interested in Computational Biology and reach out to the general biosciences community in Greece. It is important to encourage the participation of interested students in RSG Greece by being open and actively promoting new ideas and suggestions.

RSG Greece further aims to provide training opportunities through the organization of workshops, tutorials, and seminars, as well as publishing educational material and sources on the web, be present in national conferences on the field of Computational Biology and organize pre-conference talks and workshops, inform about international conferences, courses and internships in the bioinformatics field nationally and abroad and about job opportunities in academia and industry, as well as available scholarships and funding calls.
